The Story So Far ....  .

The British Blues All Stars were put together in response to a request from the Notodden Blues Festival, Norway. The focus of the 2004 festival was to be ‘The British Blues Explosion’.

The band, some six months in its formation, represents what is unique and best about British blues in the 60s. Unique the band certainly is. Its composition is flexible, but all who play with The British Blues All Stars have a musical pedigree and a place in the history of British Blues. Never before has such a band come together to tour and to represent a musical era.

The band’s uniqueness was recognized before they played their first planned concert. Word had spread around the blues festival circuit in Europe. Notodden was to be the band’s debut. However an invite came in to play an earlier festival.

The band members, for what was to be the up coming Spring Festival, differed slightly from the band originally put together for Notodden. Every member of The British Blues All Stars has their own career and commitments. This flexibility in the band’s composition makes it exciting and dynamic.

Saturday, 1st May 2004 saw the band headline the ‘Internationale Bluesdage Festival', Odense, Denmark. The ‘All Stars’ played to a sell out audience, receiving an incredible reception on their debut performance. Their line up at the festival was:

Colin Allen : drums

Long John Baldry : vocals

Bob Hall : piano & vocals

Dick Heckstall-Smith : sax

Colin Hodgkinson : bass

Dave Kelly : slide guitar & vocals

Kim Simmonds : guitar & vocals

In August, the band played their first major concert, the prestigious ‘Notodden Blues Festival’, Notodden, NorwayAt the Notodden Blues Festival, the line up was:

Colin Allen

Long John Baldry

Steve Beighton

Gary Fletcher

Bob Hall

Peter Green

Tom McGuinness

Kim Simmonds

That is the story so far. As you can see, already The British Blues All Stars are presenting a mighty and formidable line up of British blues ‘greats’. The mission of the band is simple: to spread the blues in the unique style that is The British Blues All Stars.

Planning is under way for our 2005  schedule. There has already been great interest from the USA, Europe, Australia and Japan. Keep checking the ‘News’ page.

If you are interested in booking the band for either 2004 or 2005, please get in touch as soon as possible. See the Contacts page for booking information.
